I had to take this moment to give Dr. Darren Ballard and his team 5 stars on a superb and excellent job during my recent visit at South Suburban Hospital for a colonoscopy screening. From the moment I walked in until I left, I was treated with the most ultimate care. Dr. Ballard was very hospitable and caring when I first met him. The anesthesiologist (Dr. Kumar) was kind and informative. He asked what can of music would I like before being sedated. The nurses were very considerate and loving. This entire experience under Dr. Ballard’s care was professional, loving and exceeded all my expectations. Dr. Ballard is now my gastroenterologist should I ever need him in the future. I only had one polyp, which was extracted and sent to pathology. I’m glad it’s all over now. I was a little bit uneasy with the idea of having a colonoscopy in the doctors office. No longer! , the staff made the experience pleasant if you would ever consider a colonoscopy pleasant. Dr Calandra was right..is where you wanna have it done. Very accommodative , moving forward This is the only Gi group for me. Dr.Calandra you and your staf are The Best! Inflammatory Bowel Disease is the chronic inflammation of the GI tract. The most common forms of IBD are Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, which affect approximately 1.6 million Americans, with new cases being diagnosed every year. Some risk factors include age and whether you smoke; however, you are at a heightened risk if you have a family history, as IBD can be genetic. Although IBD does not have a cure, there are treatment options available to manage this chronic condition and its symptoms.
