Dr. Mary DeMent is Board Certified in Gastroenterology. Although she treats the full spectrum of gastrointestinal conditions, she has a particular focus on hepatology, nutrition, and functional bowel disorders. She also has a strong interest in women’s health within gastroenterology. Her approach emphasizes evidence-based management with attention to quality of life and patient-centered care.
Dr. DeMent chose gastroenterology because it combines the intellectual challenge of complex diagnostic problem-solving with the opportunity to build long-term, meaningful relationships with patients. The field’s blend of hands-on procedural work and evolving evidence-based medicine allows her to apply both precision and curiosity in her daily practice. Gastroenterology gives her the breadth and depth to grow as both a clinician and an advocate.
Patients can expect a thoughtful, respectful, and collaborative approach to their care. Dr. DeMent values clear communication, patient education, and compassionate support—especially when guiding individuals through chronic illness, lifestyle changes, and important health decisions. Her goal is to ensure patients feel heard, informed, and empowered at every step of their care journey.
Dr. DeMent obtained her Medical Degree at the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine at Midwestern University. She then completed her Medical Fellowship and Medical Residency at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital.
Outside of medicine, she enjoys cooking with a focus on balanced and nourishing meals, staying active, reading, and spending time with family. She values continuous learning and appreciates opportunities for personal and professional growth.
