Cholangioscopy with SpyGlass® technology is a noninvasive endoscopic treatment that our gastroenterologists use to visualize, diagnose, and create therapeutic interventions for bile duct abnormalities. Thanks to the SpyGlass system, this procedure is not as fragile, limited, and cumbersome as it used to be. The SpyGlass system has created a breakthrough in the field of endoscopic technology and gives us the opportunity to manage diseases like:
- Bile duct cancer
- Biliary system cancer
- Biliary papillomatosis
- Gallbladder cancer
- Gallstones
- Primary sclerosing cholangitis

How is the SpyGlass system used?
The SpyGlass cholangioscopy system can easily maneuver around the biliary tree, giving an excellent, all-encompassing view that will help our Illinois providers detect and treat a wide range of GI issues. It can also be used to extract tissues needed for a biopsy and to treat bile stones, strictures, and more. The system has separate channels for the use of instruments and irrigation. Additionally, it requires less fluoroscopy time, which will consequently result in less radiation exposure for our patients.
Is the cholangioscopy system safe?
Cholangioscopy using the SpyGlass system is a very safe and effective tool; however, with most treatment methods, there does run minimal risk of complications, including cholangitis, pancreatitis, bacteremia, abdominal pain, and nausea.
What happens during the procedure?
You will generally have to lie in the prone position for the procedure. The SpyGlass access and delivery catheter will be attached to a duodenoscope which will be inserted through your mouth down into the stomach until it reaches the duodenum where the opening of the pancreatic and biliary ducts are visualized. The SpyGlass catheter will then be advanced into the common bile duct under fluoroscopic guidance to visualize the biliary tree and perform the diagnostic or therapeutic procedure as required.

Dr Robinson is very personable. He does the Prep that I like and I had a great Colonoscopy experience. Happy to call him my GI DOCTOR.
Dr. Adam Gluskin was very kind to me on my first visit ! I came to the office very scared because of what my primary doctor had told me about my diverticulitis attack! Dr Gluskin reashured mw I would be ok !
The Dr and staff were pleasant, and professional. A perfect experience. I will resist posting pictures of my healthy colon.
This is one of the nicest offices I’ve been to in a long time. I really felt like everyone went above and beyond to make me feel comfortable for a not so fun procedure. I highly recommend Dr. Victor as a gastroenterologist. He’s very easy to talk to and takes his time explaining and answering any questions!
